The mission of the Irvine Art Academy is to develop within each student, an informed appreciation of art and a lifelong interest in learning more about art. We seek to provide a comprehensive art education experience. Not only are a variety of techniques and media utilized, but creative expression is encouraged and art history is introduced

Technique - The elements of art (line, shape, form, space, color, value, texture) and principles of art (balance, unity, contrast, pattern, emphasis, movement, and rhythm) are discussed and practiced throughout the year.

Media - Watercolor, gauche, tempera paints, charcoal, colored pencil, marker, pastel, clay, and other media are used in assignments.

Creative Expression - Students are encouraged to use their own ideas in their art work and to apply design concepts to expressive and imaginative themes.

Art History - Each month we focus on a well known artist and explore their background and influence on art. Pictures and slides of their work are presented and examined.

Field Trips, Art Shows, and Contests - Two field trips a year are scheduled. Student art shows featuring each student's best work are presented to the public. Students also participate in local, national, and international fine art exhibits and contests.
